Abstract

This work deals with the spread of the drug phenomenon in Iraq and its socio-economic effects. It consists of three sections. The first section provides an overview of the cultural and socio-economic context of the drug phenomenon in Iraq, explains the main economic and cultural motives behind this phenomenon, in addition to providing a brief description of the medical treatment process in the region and Iraq, which appeared in 1990 during the acute socio-political and military crisis that the country faced as a result of the effects of the Gulf War (1991) and the increased sanctions imposed by the United States of America through a series of Security Council resolutions until the invasion and occupation of the country in2003.
